研究内容
Abstract

This project seeks to evaluate the impact of the train system in Tokyo on the distribution of economic activity and welfare. Since its first railway was built in 1872, the rail system in Tokyo has grown to become one of the most heavily utilized urban railway network, serving over 40 million passengers daily within the metropolitan area. We study the expansion of the rail network from 2000-2010 as a natural experiment in order to quantify the economic impact of the train system. A quantitative spatial model is estimated and then used to analyze the impact of the system on the distribution of economic activity and welfare.
