Effective Boost to Fertility: Policy Evaluation and Policy Design
完了
菅澤 翔之助
The total fertility rate in developed countries in East Asia and Europe has decreased dramatically in the past 50 years. To promote fertility, these countries implemented social policies such as tax incentives and financial subsidies. However, rigorous academic analysis on the effectiveness of these policies is limited. Our research agenda is first to generate novel household-level data sources in Japan, using individual data of Japanese Census from 1995 to 2015. We will then analyze the data using economic models and econometric methods in order to evaluate the current fertility policies implemented by Japanese local governments. Our broader ambition is to provide scientific interpretations to the mechanism that drives people's fertility decisions, based on which we design public and social policies that effectively increase the fertility rates in developed countries. This project is supported by KAKENHI (19K20891).
